Brendan Fraser Left In Tears After A Standing Ovation At The Premiere Of His Comeback Role
The role sees him as the lead character, Charlie, an English teacher reconnecting with his teen daughter.
At the Venice Film Festival, Brendan Fraser received a six-minute standing ovation for his comeback to Hollywood. The actor has had breakout roles in ‘The Mummy franchise and George of the Jungle (1997). But sadly, the mummy movies took a great toll on him, and as a result, he had several surgeries due to stunt work.
But despite the struggles, Fraser is back and set to play the lead character, Charlie, in ‘The Whale.’
He attended the world premiere of the upcoming film, in which he plays an English teacher reconnecting with his teenage daughter. And as Fraser attempted to exit the stage, audience members and people onstage didn’t hold back in giving him an ovation with a round of applause. In response, he appeared to be left in tears.
With the video circulating online, Fraser has continued to receive an outpouring of support online.

Dwayne, “The Rock” Johnson, tweeted: “Man, this makes me so happy to see this beautiful ovation for Brendan. He supported me coming into his Mummy Returns franchise for my first ever role, which kicked off my Hollywood career.” Another tweeted: “I wish him to be showered with praise, and I’ve a feeling he won’t take it for granted for an instant. Welcome back, Brendan Fraser. We’ve missed you.”
A third also wrote: “He deserves all the love in the world. Dude had a super unfair shake in Hollywood, but now it’s hopefully coming around, and he’s going to get his due.”
Fraser acted in the Mummy Returns [2001], the Mummy: Tomb of The Dragon Emperor [2008], and The Mummy [1999]. After the conclusion of his role in the franchise, the actor told GQ in 2018 that he underwent a laminectomy, a procedure to remove vertebrae from the spine, a partial knee replacement, and vocal cord repair.
Fraser had also wondered if the Hollywood Foreign Press Association had blacklisted him after alleging a former HFPA president groped him in 2003.
However, it’s good to have him back on board, and interestingly, he has several upcoming roles, including a role with Glenn Close and Peter Dinklage in brothers. He will feature in the Martin Scorsese-directed Killers of the Flower Moon [2023] with Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Behind the Curtain of Night.
