Furious Mob Demands Tourist Be ‘Sacrificed’ After She Climbed The Mayan Pyramid

Climbing the pyramid has been banned since 2008.

It’s often advised tourists should always be respectful of historical and cultural importance when visiting places, they’ve never been to. However, a female tourist who recently visited the Mayan pyramid in Chichen Itza, Southeastern Mexico has learned of the warning a hard way with severe consequences for climbing the ancient structure.

The woman [unnamed] was seen at the top of the building, also known as the Castillo de Kukulcan. It’s regarded as one of the new seven wonders of the modern world.

She didn’t only pose at the top of the pyramid for photos, the tourist even stopped to dance. Onlookers booed her for the act and while it should have been a sign to stop whatever she was doing immediately, the tourist remained unbothered.

But then, the verdict surfaced at the time she reached the bottom, with an angry mob calling for her to be sacrificed.

Crowds, as per The Merco Press, also chanted ‘jail, jail, jail, ‘lock her up and sacrifice, sacrifice, because this woman does not respect the rules.”

The TikTok video which documented the incident showed how the tourist was sprayed with water as she attempts to leave the historic site. People climbing the pyramid have since 2008 been banned by the National Institute of Anthropology and History [INAH]. To deter people from doing so, there’s also a fine from $2,558 to $5,115 USD, calculated based on the amount of damage caused to the pyramid.

The tourist’s ethnicity isn’t known, but the crowd insisted in their chants, ‘if she’s from abroad, she should leave Mexico.”

To put it into context, the news outlet reported there have been popular rock concerts with fewer people in attendance at the location, needless to say, the woman visited the place to attend the event. Nonetheless, viewers had a lot to say about the tourist’s actions, with one writing: “The crowd yelling ‘jail, jail, jail, makes me feel better about society seeing these acts as egregious rather than applaudable.”

Another said the woman got off lightly compared to what the Mayan people allegedly used to do to their enemies.

They wrote: “The Mayans used to cut head of their enemies and roll them down those same pyramids. I’d say they’re being nice.” A third added: “Imagine someone from Mexico doing anything anywhere near this disrespectful to an American monument. Every media outlet would be running the video continuously for weeks. But when Americans do it to a Mexican monument, it’s not news.”
