Photographer Arrested For Pyramids Photoshoot Of A Model In Egypt

The Pyramids are the most-known monuments of ancient Egypt, and many people are to date fascinated by the structures. These gigantic tributes to the Egyptian kings’ memory have become identical with the country even though other cultures, including Mayan, also built pyramids.  In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Egypt reopened the Step Pyramid of Djoser after 14-year-long restoration work, overlooking the global pandemic’s uncertain effect on tourism. People got thrilled by the news, rushing over to the tourist spot for a visit and, importantly, for photos.

But one scheduled photoshoot at the tourist site (The Pyramid Of Djoser outside Cairo) took an unexpected twist as a photographer has been arrested for disrespect, having taken photos of a model in a revealing ancient costume. The model had been photographed donning a short semi-naked Pharaonic-style dress in front of the ancient burial site.

Egyptian Fashion Model Salma Al Shimi and her photographer has been charged to court for taking photos with short semi-naked Pharaonic-style dress in front of Saqqara

Salma Al Shimi, the Egyptian Fashion Model, had equally been arrested after the photoshoot, which took place at the Saqqara Necropolis, 20 miles South of Cairo, but only the photographer got detained. The case had now been referred to courts, so both the photographer and the model are awaiting trial.

Model Shimi who has amassed thousands of followers on Instagram, had uploaded photos of the shoots of her in ancient Egyptian dress at the foot of the 4700-Year-Old Structure. Instantly, it sparked rumors of betraying Egypt’s ancient heritage while breaking the antiquities ministry’s rules.

However, the police are investigating the incident and are searching to identify the employee who had permitted the model and photographer into the archaeological area. On the other hand, the Saqqara is recognized as an active burial ground for over 3000 years, and it’s a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.
