Ellen Page Is Now Elliot Page As He Came Out As Trans Officially On Social Media
His name is Elliot and you can refer Elliot as him/they.
Ellen Page who played the role of violinist Vanya Hargreeves came out as a trans man very recently on her social media. On both Twitter and Instagram, the celebrity whose name is now Elliot Page shared the same message including his new name and pronouns.
“I feel lucky to be writing this,” wrote the Oscar-winner actor.
“I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self,” he continued. “I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community.”
While expressing his joy, the Canadian actor couldn’t help but also expresses concern over his newfound self-discovery. “I’m scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the ‘jokes’ and of violence,” wrote Emma Portner’s spouse of almost 3 years. But he isn’t trying to turn this event into a gloomy one; his purpose is to bring even more awareness over the staggering statistics of discrimination that happens towards trans people.
Elliot Page first came out as gay back in 2014 when he was appointed to speak for the Human Rights Campaign’s Time to Thrive conference. In the emotional speech, the ‘Juno’ actor spoke frankly about being gay and how he wished to make a difference.
He later revealed in 2017 that director Brett Ratner shamed him for being gay on a greet-and-meet for ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ and about being sexually assaulted at the age of 16. Recalling the event, then-Ellen said, “I was a young adult who had not yet come out to myself. I knew I was gay but did not know, so to speak. I felt violated when this happened.”
Elliot’s statement has been very well-received with many people praising him for his decision. Fellow actor Mark Ruffalo wrote, “Congratulation, Elliot, in committing to the full expression of your self and being so open and candid about it. You have made this world a more tolerant and loving place with your commitment, courage, and vulnerability. We are lucky to have public figures like you.”
Patrick Stewart left a short, but meaningful reply: “I am proud to be your friend.”
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ director James Gunn wrote, “Elliot, I love you, am proud of you, and admire you. Please keep being a beacon of courage, compassion, and strength for all of us.”
Elliot currently has a role as Vanya, a female violinist whose love life had earned quite the spotlight in the second season of ‘Umbrella Academy.’ Vanya, who initially dated a man in the first season, has a female love interest in the second season that indicated her character to be bi.
Insiders have informed that there are no plans to change the gender of Vanya with the actor’s revelation. There was also no information on whether Vanya will undergo any surgery or hormone therapy to begin his transitioning.
