Dakota Johnson Says Alfred Hitchcock ‘Ruined’ Her Grandma’s Career
Not held accountable to date.
Tippi Hedren had worked with director Alfred Hitchcock in the early 1960s on The Birds and Marnie and had claimed in her 2016 memoir that Hitchcock sexually assaulted her a couple of times. Speaking on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter Podcast, Dakota Johnson again reiterated that Hitchcock terrorized Tippi and ruined her career because she didn’t want to sleep with him.
Dakota Johnson recently reflected on the abuse her grandma Tippi Hedren, allegedly suffered in Hollywood.
Johson said Alfred Hitchcock, whom Hedren worked with on “The Birds” and “Marnie” ruined her career.
“He was never held accountable. It’s completely unacceptable for people in a position of power to wield that power over someone in a weaker position, no matter the industry. It’s hard to talk because she’s my grandmother. You don’t want to imagine somebody taking advantage of your grandmother.” Johnson said.
In her 2016 Memoir, Hedren had alleged several instances of abuse at the hands of the late director.
He reportedly ruined her career because she didn’t want to sleep with him, and then he terrorized her.
She added: “I think the thing that she’s been so amazing for me and with my mother is like, no, you do not put up with that sh*t from anybody. She would say it in a far more eloquent way. She’s such a glamorous movie star, still.” This comes after Johnson recently spoke out on abuse allegations leveled at a number of her former co-stars, including Johnny Depp.
“You don’t want to imagine somebody taking advantage of your grandmother,” Johnson said.
Hedren and Johnson’s mom, Melanie, has since instilled in her not to put up with being mistreated at work.
Depp and Shia LaBeouf have both been accused of abuse by former partners, and at the moment, Armie Hammer is facing sexual assault allegations. But so far, all three have denied the allegations. However, this isn’t the first time one of Hedren’s family members has opened up about Hitchcock’s alleged assault.
This comes after Johnson spoke out on abuse allegations leveled at a number of her former co-stars.
Melanie, Hedren’s daughter, had earlier revealed that Hitchcock “apparently was not very good with my mom.”
During a conversation between Melanie Griffith and Jamie Lee Curtis for Interview Magazine, Griffith – who’s Hedren’s daughter had revealed that Hitchcock “apparently was not very good with my mom.” Hitchcock herself had via her Memoir explained: “I’ll say he suddenly grabbed me and put his bands on me. It was sexual, it was perverse, and it was ugly, and I couldn’t have been more shocked and repulsed.”
