Billie Eilish Hits Back At People Slamming Her New Look On Vogue’s Cover
Creepy headline that doesn’t respect a woman’s autonomy at all.
Can you imagine a grown-up woman finally finding confidence in herself to wear something different? Despite her still raging insecurity of her body?
19-year-old Billie Eilish requested British Vogue to realize a concept she wanted to try and, dang, did it broke the Internet.
An iconic body positivity figure who is honest about her own feelings when it comes to her body. In the interview, she explicitly said that it was horrible to see people complimenting her for feeling comfortable in her ‘bigger skin.’ She also knows how there’ll be negative backlashes for her corsets photoshoots due to the historical values of these things.
Oh, the irony when a whole article was dedicated on the very thing she predicted would happen.
Many of us were at that one time in life when we were all emo, and that black was the only color we wanted to wear. As teenagers with raging hormones, we were still seeking ourselves. Some people loved open-shoulders and exposing clothes that made them feel comfortable.
But some, like Billie Eilish, prefer to wear baggy clothes because she didn’t want people to look at her body. On top of that, she was a MINOR. She had a lot going at that time as big fashion was one way for her to feel safe.
Emily Clarkson decided to pointed out how they could’ve fixed that headline.
She crossed out the ‘Proof that money can make you change your values and sell out’ part and changed it to ‘Proof that women can change their minds and reclaim autonomy over their own bodies.’ As for the last part, she decided to remind them that Billie Eilish was a minor.
Who would’ve known that changing fashion would be seen as such a huge issue? It wasn’t like Billie Eilish said she would never wear baggy clothes for the rest of her life.
That headline realized the very thing Billie Eilish feared if she’s not in a puffer jacket: giving people the opportunity to judge.
We could break down and dissect every single word Billie said to counter this, but really?
To quote 17-year-old Billie’s word in her interview with British Vogue, “My thing is that I can do whatever I want.”
“It’s all about what makes you feel good. If you want to get surgery, go get surgery. If you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing, f**k it – if you feel like you look good, you look good.”
