Moment Spanish Schoolkids Welcome Their New Ukrainian Classmate With Hugs On His First Day

About 1.5million kids have since fled Ukraine.

A video, now viral, has shown the beautiful moment a young boy who just arrived from Ukraine as a refugee after fleeing the war is greeted with hugs by Spanish schoolkids on his first day in class. The child had arrived in the country with his mom and three-month-old sisters to stay with their relatives.

Reportedly, his dad couldn’t join them as he had to remain in Ukraine to fight the Russian invaders under the country’s martial law rules.

The clip had been shot at the CEIP Peru school in the Spanish capital Madrid and was shared by Ukrainian diplomat 51-Year-Old Olexander Scherba, who was Ukraine’s ambassador to Austria until 2021. As seen, the local schoolchildren couldn’t hold back but gathered around their classmate and gave him hugs.

Surprised and unsure how to react, the young child eventually broke into a broad smile as all the boys and girls hugged simultaneously, with one little lad even returning for seconds.

The teacher was also seen as she explained that the young boy [name withheld] would be joining their class. Other adults, suspected to be parents, were seen standing around and allowing the children to get on with what they were doing.

According to his uncle, the boy is yet to learn Spanish, but he’s already playing with his new classmates.

However, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s office has said that at least 115 children have died since Putin launched his special military operation to de-Nazify Ukraine. On the other hand, the International Court of Justice in The Hague has ordered Russia to suspend its illegal invasion of Ukraine immediately.
