“I Am Perfect The Way I Am,” Selena Gomez Embraces Her Body & Chooses To Not Glorify Beauty Standards

Gomez has learned to have thick skin and urges her fans to filter what they get exposed to.

The “Only Murders In The Building” star insisted staying skinny is not worth missing out on delicious foods while urging her fans to remove themselves from fake, unrealistic image standards. Selena Gomez also asked them to be honest and very intentional with what they focused their attention on in life. 

The Revelación singer who took to TikTok to voice out the mentioned above reminded her fans that, “Being vulnerable is a strength, not a weakness.”

In her TikTok story, which has since been shared on her largest Instagram fan account, Gomez revealed her order from Jack in the Box and stated: “So I be trying to stay skinny, but I went to Jack in the Box and I got 4 tacos, 3 egg rolls, onion rings, and a spicy chicken sandwich.” She added: “But honestly, I don’t care about my weight.”

The actress then ended the video with, ‘I am perfect the way I am.” 

The singer has struggled with the emotions of not fitting into impossible expectations and remains outspoken. Recently, Gomez opened up about the absurd disapproval she receives, which she claims started in 2015 when she appeared on the cover of her album, Revival. The situation got so out of control that she had to start therapy to take care of her mental well-being.

The singer has also spoken up about her struggle with lupus and kidney transplant, which both have had an impact on her health and weight.

Following the release of her new makeup line, ‘Rare Beauty,” Gomez told Cosmopolitan in a 2020 interview: “I fluctuate in my weight a lot,” then added she had to learn to have thick skin at a pretty early stage in her life. With years of struggles, the singer has had to go offline, which has been the case since 2017. She spoke to Good Morning America about how stepping away from the internet changed her life.

Gomez said, “I am happier, I am more present, I connect more with people,” as she spoke of how dangerous social media is and how scary it can be during her 2019 Cannes Film Festival interview.

Nonetheless, social media, particularly Instagram, pressures girls to measure up to an unattainable beauty ideal; hence, if you feel insecure when looking through flawless photos and filtered photos, you should know you’re not alone, as even celebs, including Gomez, struggle too. But thankfully, the actress, as per Brightside has learned and fully embraced her body shape, eating anything her stomach calls for.
