It turns out how the technique is being done isn’t a great approach. Following the disappearance and death of Sarah Everard, discussions hinged on women’s safety have emerged. Many people are taking to social media to share valuable tips, and among the numerous shared, TikTok User Fae advice appears to be trending.

TikToker and Makeup artist Fae demonstrated how to hold a set of keys for protection. In a clip posted to TikTok, Fae proves having keys in a fist is more effective in defending oneself than holding keys between knuckles. Instead of making the wolverine approach, Fae insists her method dubbed the hammer method, will make a victim extend their arms to stab the attacker in the leg and more sensitive areas.

Fae, who practicalized her advice with her friend named Charly in one of the clips, shows how punching an attacker using the Wolverine approach can be hurting. She also shows how taking a long key, holding it in a fist wouldn’t wobble and be more effective.

Fae insists the hammer method will make a victim extend their arms to stab the attacker in sensitive areas.

Since shared, the video has gone all viral, amassing over 2.5million views, over 500,000 likes, and over 18,000 shares. Many users found the advice very useful even though it was pointed out that they wished it was never a need in the first place. Accordingly, Fae shared a 2nd clip captioned: “Be mindful of what is legal in your country,” advising that people shouldn’t use pepper sprays, knives among others.

On the other hand, if you don’t have a longer key, more minor house keys are also recommended. They might not seriously harm the attacker as the long ones, but they can help you get away.
