Woman Says She Loses Friends After Falling For Her Ex-Boyfriend’s Father
“This friend would never want to come hang out or even talk to me much at all.”
Sydney Dean from the US journey to find the love of her life included losing some friends who couldn’t accept her choices. But the 27-year-old, who’s now married to Paul, is head over heels for the man who’s also her ex-boyfriend’s father.
She first met the man when she came over to their house as his son’s friend at the age of 11.
She often came over on weekends and eventually fell for her childhood friend first. But the romance came to an end when Paul’s son started dating another girl when they were teenagers. Sydney began feeling out of place and started spending more time with Paul instead.
Turns out, they clicked well and the two began dating the moment Sydney reached the legal age of consent in Ohio, which is 16. The couple got married in 2016 and has been living happily ever after since then.
But despite them feeling good about their relationship, Sydney’s friends and family members were befuddled.
Sydney gushed over the man, “He is the only person I have had sex with and he is the best. I can’t really compare the sex to other relationships, as he is the first real relationship I have been in.”
“I never expected to fall in love with Paul and we met in a non-traditional way, but I’m so happy I did,” shared the woman. It did take a while, but most of her closed ones came around to accept their relationship.
Sydney shared, “My mum already knew who Paul was and from the few times they have talked, they got along just fine. But when I first told my mum that we were together, she was not happy. The age gap really got to her and it stayed that way for about a year – eventually she came around.”
“Now that we live pretty close to each other, she comes over all the time. She’s 100 percent supportive of us and absolutely loves Paul. In the beginning my father didn’t like the age gap either and as he lives out of state, he didn’t see him as much. But now, he really likes him.”
She then recalled how she lost one close friend who “wasn’t OK” with her relationship.
“This friend would never want to come hang out or even talk to me much at all if he was around. She eventually didn’t want to be my friend anymore because of the age difference in the relationship.”
Sydney also found it initially hard to fit into the family with the Paul’s youngest, but as time went by, he’s become much more supportive of them. And now, she hopes that the age gap stigma can be lessened with their story, “I wish people would understand that couples with an age gap can truly love and care for one another.”
“There are a lot of negative assumptions about age gap relationships, but that doesn’t mean couples can’t be in it for the right reasons. He is the best husband I could have asked for, and he treats me so great.”
