Will Smith Said He Spent 3 Years Organising Jada’s 40th Birthday Party, But She Called It ‘Ridiculous Display Of Ego’
She called it her “mid-life crisis” moment.
Jada Pinkett Smith had called her 40th birthday that Will Smith prepared as “the most ridiculous display of” his “ego”. In the resurfaced video, Will added, “Crushed, right?”
“I think the turning point in our relationship for me happened when I turned 40. That’s when I had a mid-life crisis,” Jada spoke at the Red Table Talk.
“Yeah, your 40th birthday was my low point,” Will chimed in. He added details on how he planned out for her 40th birthday.
“The day after her 37th birthday, I hired a team to orchestrate her 40th birthday. I hired a documentary team; I traced mommy’s family roots. Her 40th birthday was going to be my thing!” he recalled the very same excitement he had back then.
The lavish birthday party also saw the performance of R&B superstar Mary J Blige, but it was after Smith played hidden tapes from Jada’s grandmother that she’s never heard of.
Willow, how remembered the day, sighed solemnly, “It was going to be a splash.”
“It was going to be the thing that lifted her out of this mid-life crisis. It was going to be my deepest, most beautiful proclamation of love,” Smith added. But when they got home, Jada was tired and told him that she didn’t want to do anything the next day and “just wanted an intimate time”.
“The party was the most ridiculous display of my ego,” Smith recalled her words. “Crushed, right? And to this day, I know I was crushed because it was true. It wasn’t a party for her.”
The video was shared on October, 2018, a year before Jada spoke of her entanglement.
And it has become the talk of the town after Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage at the 94th Academy Awards. The 53-year-old later shouted profanities from his seat, telling the comedian to not use his wife’s name in his jokes.
He has since apologized on his social media to the comedian and wrote, “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive.”
He had also resigned from The Academy days before he was announced to be banned from attending any of their events for the next 10 years. He walked home with his first Oscars trophy for his role in ‘King Richard’ as Richard Williams.
