Viral Video Shows Indiana Man Rescuing Four Children And One Adult From House Fire
He will be honored at a local baseball game, and proceeds from ticket sales will go to his GoFundMe.
The title ‘heroic’ has also been given to Nicholas Bostic of Lafayette, Indiana, for rushing head-first into a fire to rescue five trapped people. Local police alleged they responded to reports of a house fire and a bodycam video showed how cops told the fire department that a young girl and a man in his 20s were possibly still inside.
But six minutes after they arrived, they witnessed Nicholas jump through the window of the home’s second story with a six-year-old child.
The video also showed how the cops treated Nicholas’s wounds as he asked, “Is the baby okay? Please tell me the baby is okay.” The officers responded: “Yes, you did good, dude.” Due to the rescue, Nicholas suffered severe smoke inhalation and deep cuts on his right arm. He was later taken to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment, and he also filed in the Lafayette PD on what transpired that night.
Nicholas admitted he didn’t call 911 when he drove past the fire because he didn’t want to waste time finding someone who could call it in and knew he had to act.
He stressed that after yelling inside from the back door and receiving no response, he decided to go in and found four occupants who ranged in age from 1-18. Fox 59 reported the residents included four children and their 18-Year-Old sister. Police said: “His yells of warning roused them from their sleep, and he helped them escape from the house.”
As Nicholas got the first four outside, he learned about the 6-Year-Old inside and ran back in. Looking frantically for the girl, he heard the child crying and did the rescue. The Police added: “He knew he was there to get that child out, and even though the fire and smoke downstairs frightened him, he would not quit.”
On Facebook, the City of Lafayette said, “Nicholas Bostic’s heroic actions saved lives.”
It added: “His selflessness exhibited when he rushed into a burning Lafayette home to save children trapped inside is inspiring and he has impressed many with his courage, tenacity and steadfast calmness in the face of such perilous danger.” However, the City pointed out that Nicholas’s heroics will be honored at a local baseball game next month, with proceeds from ticket sales going into Nicholas’ GoFundMe page.
