What is the fact?

A clip of a frail monk from Thailand has been making rounds on TikTok with rumors saying that the man was 163 years old. Fact checks have been pretty impossible to do since Luang Pho Yai’s birth certificate couldn’t be verified; here we go.

An old monk from Thai had a clip of him resting on his bed viral with over 34 million views.

He made his first appearance on the internet when he broke a hip bone and his granddaughter, Auyary KH, decided to document his condition on TikTok. The monk quickly gained fame as people were curious about his age and condition.

Claims of him being 163 years seems to be untrue as several comments correct others and clarify that he’s 109, which is still impressive!

Now his page has almost 600k followers, but unfortunately, the videos have received pretty cruel comments on his age. But there are many who share just how purely amazed they are, and so are we!

After breaking a hip bone, the monk has since been recovering well and is able to eat and even exercise.

Then what was that about self-mummification?

This appears to be an extreme method that is rarely observed among Buddhist monks of Japan. Self-mummification, or Shoukushibutsu, is a method where the monks would deliberately dehydrate themselves and adopt a no-fat diet before they’re buried in a pine box.

Inside there, the monks will meditate until their very last days, alive.

The current oldest person in the world is Kane Tanaka from Japan. She’s 119 years old and lives in a nursing home in Fukuoka, Japan. The oldest man alive is Venezuelan resident Juan Vicente Pérez Mora.

The oldest, verified person alive is Jeanne Louise Calment from France. She was born in 1875 and died in 1997 at the age of 122 years.

What an amazing man! Stay tuned to her page for more updates!
