Loving someone taller is part of a female’s instincts.

We don’t want to love people because of their physical appearance, but many women naturally prefer taller men. The sight of a man shorter than the bride always seems funny to some. Still, we essentially try not to judge others because of height differences even though we cannot pinpoint the exact reason why and it is almost like explaining why you don’t want pineapples on your pizza.

Korean researcher Son Ki Tae from Konkuk University, Seoul, South Korea, studied if there is indeed a correlation. The study analyzes 7,850 samples that represent the Indonesian population.

The research’s conclusion agrees that taller husbands DO make their wives happier.

The study continues, “This relationship gradually weakened over time and entirely dissipated by 18 years of marital duration. The husband’s resourcefulness was a minor mediator in the relationship.”

Yes, the impact that one’s height on your happiness is considered minor. Which makes sense considering you absolutely will not marry just any man that are taller than you. However, 18 years is a long time, which means it is an important factor that affects one’s happiness.

A study on why men prefer shorter women and vice versa reveals, however, that the preferences may have something to do with societal expectations.

Sexual dimorphism, which is one’s interest in height difference, may have been caused by fear of how society will view them. In another study that delves into the social part of one’s dating preferences, the survey found the answers are often “connected to societal expectations or gender stereotypes.”

Sure, everyone can have their own preferences, it’s just natural.

But when real statistics are taken into considerations, preferences don’t necessarily translate to finding a mate with that exact characteristic. This is simply because one values many other things in finding the right person compared to something like the height gap.

There are more pairings where the men stand on the taller sides. But in reality, people concede when they feel right with someone despite the height gap not within their preference (women’s average gap preference is bigger than men’s).
