Stephen Colbert Had Penn Badgley Answered How He Got Creepy In ‘You’ And It Was Hilariously Uncomfy
It was simple, but also hard to do.
Seriously, what was everyone thinking when they asked Penn Badgley to act like Joe Goldberg in a show? A nice, sweet dream? A wonderful, peaceful sleep? Oh, well.
Penn Badgley is Joe Goldberg in ‘You’ which has returned for season 2 on Netflix on Boxing Day. The psychological thriller focuses on sociopath Joe who is also a stalker of the women he’s interested in.
And his acting has managed to scare many people as previously, he was in ‘Gossip Girl’. While people couldn’t stop calling him Dan Humphrey all the time, they did when Joe began acting so creepy in the series.
He was also on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ for his season 2 of ‘You’.
And like many actors who work with psychological genre, Colbert asked what did Penn do for his character.
Penn readily revealed what actually happened.
It all began as early as during the photo shoot between him and Elizabeth Lail’s actress.
And here’s the trick:
The creepiness was not something Joe did alone – it was the setting, the fact that he’s there.
And then, he made Penn did it right there, in front of all of us.
He immediately gave this stone-cold expression as if he was staring deep into you. And just like what everyone can agree on, this is a very uncomfortable gesture that makes it seem like someone is TOO keen into you.
And that’s how Joe Goldberg did it!
There are also people who think Penn has a really good voice for the creepy Joe.
