Shawn Mendes And Camila Cabello Announces Split, But Will Remain As ‘Best Friends’
They’ve made their decision.
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have announced their breakup as romantic partners. But at the same time, the two promise to stay as best friends, the thing they’ve been the longest before boyfriend and girlfriend.
They’ve decided to call it quits with the romance.
However, their “love for one another” remains strong and they are still close with each other. They wrote, “We started our relationship as best friends and will to be best friends.”
The two have been dating for two years and often share adorable couple pictures and clips of each other.
The relationship began after the 24-year-old Cuban singer and actress ended her relationship with Matthew Hussey.
They started dating in July 2019 and denied any dating news for three months to “protect” their relationship.
Camila told Elle in an interview, “I don’t know. People can say whatever they want. They can speculate, but at the same time, we are going to live our own lives, enjoy it and fall for each other like nobody is watching.
“That is how I want to live. I never want to open the door for people to feel like they are involved. Like I said, I want it to be mine and [his]. That’s why I’m so tight-lipped about it.”
She got on quarantine together with the “Mercy” singer. They were constantly gushing about each other on interviews and social media posts.
Camila even made a post about how they “learned about love” after half a year into quarantine. She wrote, “It’s not just the happy blissful moments you see in pictures and videos — when you’re in a relationship with someone, it feels like they are this mirror reflecting yourself back to you.”
“I constantly have to confront my fears, my anxieties, my insecurities, my patterns of thinking, my beliefs about life and about myself. It’s not as simple as it looks in pictures sometimes. Sometimes, it’s messy and uncomfortable and ugly lol.”
“But there’s nothing like the pull, the FORCE that is love, to be the light in the darkness — to be the gravitational pull that gives you the relentless strength to be braver, wiser, and better than you were yesterday.”
Shawn even hinted that he thought about proposing to the “Havana” singer.
Speaking to ET a month after the romantic post, he said, “I think for me it’s always been if I’m not willing to talk about that stuff then I kind of check out a little bit, and I don’t know, I really think when you know, you know.”
