Selena dethrones Kylie Jenner as the most-followed.

The Wolves singer is now the 3rd most followed on Instagram behind soccer players Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 562 followers, and Lionel Messi, who has 442. But historically, Selena Gomez becomes the first woman to have 400 million followers, weeks after dethroning Kylie Jenner.

The singer’s fans have been rejoicing at this news, and many have dubbed Selena the Queen of Instagram.

In 2019, the actress was previously the most followed on the site before Ariana Grande beat her to the post, and Kylie, 25, eventually took over.

Taking to Twitter, a die-hard fan of Selena expressed: “Selena Gomez is once again the most followed woman on Instagram. Queen is back! Another wrote: “She’s back on her throne. Selena, queen of Instagram.” A third named the singer the OG queen of Instagram while a fourth added: “Selena Gomez is now the most followed female artist on Instagram and TikTok. A global queen.”

Yes, she now boasts millions of followers, but Selena reportedly revealed she had stepped back from social media and only has TikTok on her phone.

The star told Vanity Fair she was hurt by mean comments from trolls and saw using the platforms too much as a waste of time. “People call me ugly or stupid and I’m like, whatever. But these people get detailed. They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean. I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety… I couldn’t do it anymore. It was a waste of my time.”

Selena has, however, now created a system where she has an assistant who serves as a barrier between her and the comments by posting on her behalf.

She continued: “There are wonderful things about social media, connecting with fans, seeing how happy and excited they are and their stories. But usually that’s filtered through [for me now]. I created a system. Everything I do I send my assistant who posts them. As far as comments, my team will put together a few things that are encouraging.”

The singer insisted she only had TikTok on her phone and that’s because she finds it to be a little less hostile.

“I never got the chance to go to an actual high school. The world was my high school for the longest time, and I started getting inundated with information that I didn’t want. I went through a hard time in a breakup and I didn’t want to see any of the [feedback], not necessarily about the relationship, but the opinions of me versus [someone] else. There’d be thousands of nice comments, but my mind goes straight to the mean ones.”

On the other hand, on her heels now is Kylie, who has 382 million fans on Instagram, where she shares photos of her lifestyle and promotes her makeup brand, Kylie Cosmetics.
