Mom Doesn’t Let Daughter Sleep With Boyfriend, Wonders If That’s Too Much
Now she feels like she’s being punished by her daughter.
My house, my rule. That’s a universal rule that is legally accepted and understood by many. A mother imposes the rule that her daughter can’t sleep with her boyfriend while in her house, and we’d probably understand if she’s talking about her 15 or 16-year-old teen girl.
However, a mother had imposed the rule on her grown-up daughter, who’s been in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend. And now, their relationship has strained a bit.
“AITA for not allowing my daughter to sleep in the same bed as her boyfriend?”
Household rules definitely differ from one another. What works for one family probably won’t work for another. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, so the comment section of Reddit is filled with people sharing their personal experiences. However, the majority of them came to a similar conclusion that she needs to accept the decision her daughter made.
She later discloses more details on her daughter and what happened.
We probably won’t ever understand the motivation behind the set rules. The daughter is too old to worry about teen pregnancy because… she is not a teen anymore.
As many of the older generations refuse to change some of their ways, youngsters will do well to respect them. Just like how you take off your shoes in some houses or use honorifics in some culture.
But her grown-up daughter, who’s in a 3-year relationship with her boyfriend, also has the right not to visit as often because they’re uncomfortable with the rule set there. And as it is still in the middle of the pandemic, most people make fewer visits to their families due to lockdown.
