Man Makes History As The First Single Gay To Become A Dad
He endured many obstacles and heartbreaks.
Shaun Resnik is single, yet it didn’t disrupt his plans for parenthood, joining local surrogacy Facebook groups shortly after his 40th birthday. A year later, the now 44-Year-Old met with Carla Pincombe, pregnant with a same-sex couple’s surrogate, and the pair became friends. Carla eventually carried Resnik’s child, too, having endured an unsuccessful journey with three other surrogates.
His dream of fatherhood became a reality when a mom-of-two, Bree, donated her eggs for Pincombe [pictured] to carry his child.
Finally, the Melbourne naturopath is enjoying his lifelong dream and has made history as the first single man to become a dad through surrogacy following the birth of baby Eli Micheal on March 22nd. Resnik hopes his story will open the door for other gay singles to finally become parents. He told Seven News: “It’s a love like I’ve never experienced before.”
“This is huge! It’s time society got to see single gay men as dads. I have always wanted to be a dad; I just didn’t know how I was going to make it possible.”
He described the journey as exhausting but rewarding, and interestingly, Eli had been named after Resnik’s grandfather. Resnik told Sunrise Eli is a good bubba, and as long as there is a bottle in his mouth, he’s calm, relaxed, and chilled, but he has a scream that can pierce a soul. “He’s keeping us up at night, and if I wasn’t bald, I would have lost my hair already.”
Of the three-and-a-half-year journey he endured, Resnik insisted it was worth it and that a close relationship with his parents [pictured with his dad] inspired his urge to have children, even if it meant going solo.
However, the new dad is now in a new relationship, and his partner Sean [pictured below] has just joined the family on this journey. While the house also has two dogs, Resnik and his partner have been spending their time adjusting to life with their new bundle of joy.
On the other hand, Ms. Pincombe is more than happy to help her friend after three potential surrogates fell through for several reasons.
