Heard’s lawyer, Ben Rottenborn, quoted an article to refute the fact by mentioning that Depp had been let go two months before the op-ed was posted. Depp acknowledges not being aware of the article from October 2018.

However, it did not matter much as he continued, “Two years had gone by of constant worldwide talk about me being this wife beater. So I’m sure that Disney was trying to cut ties to be safe. The #MeToo movement was in full swing at that point.”

While the defense team continued to emphasize the fact that names weren’t mentioned and nitpick on the dates, Depp hit them back, “I would be a real simpleton to not think that there was an effect on my career based on Ms. Heard’s words, whether they mentioned my name or not.”

He referred to how Heard first accused the man in 2016, which was long before the DailyMail article. “Once that happened, I lost then. No matter the outcome of this trial, I’ll carry that for the rest of my days,” he spoke in the court.

“I’m suing her over defamation and the various falsities that she used to bring my life to an end.”

One of his latest releases was “Minamata,” where he portrays the role of journalist and photographer W. Eugene Smith.

Despite his role being removed, Disney doesn’t stop profiting off it as he reminded them, “They didn’t remove my character from the rides. They didn’t stop selling dolls of Captain Jack Sparrow. They didn’t stop selling anything. They just didn’t want there to be something trailing behind me that they’d find.”

Disney production chief Sean Bailey also confirmed that Depp had been removed from the franchise after the op-ed article.
