“Hollywood is Spineless”: Jim Carrey Slams Oscars’ Standing Ovation For Will Smith
“I’d have announced this morning that I was suing Will for $200 million.”
Comedian and actor Jim Carrey has slammed Will Smith’s action at Oscars 2022 for slapping Chris Rock and the standing ovation he received. When asked about his thoughts at the 94th Academy Award, his answer was clear.
“I was sickened. I was sickened by the standing ovation,” he told CBS Morning.
The 60-year-old added, “Hollywood is just spineless en masse and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we aren’t the cool club anymore.”
The ‘The Mask’ star also believed that he shouldn’t have gone out of the situation unscathed, saying that he’d have sued the man by the next day. The man said, “I’d have announced this morning that I was suing Will for $200 million because that video is going to be there forever, it’s going to be ubiquitous.”

“That insult is gonna last a very long time,” he pointed out, referring to the video of the slap that has gone viral by now.

“If you want to yell from the audience and show disapproval or say something on Twitter [, that’s OK, but] you do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face ‘cuz they said words,” Carrey shared his opinion.
When explained that the situation had escalated for the couple, referring to the months of rumors and gossip revolving around their relationship, Carrey denied, “It didn’t escalate, it came out of nowhere because Will has something going on inside him that’s frustrated.”

“I wish him the best, I really do … He’s done great things. But that was not a good moment. It cast a pall over everybody’s shining moment,” he continued. “It was such a selfish moment that cast a pall over the whole thing.”
After the issue, the actor had issued an apology to the comedian, after skipping his name last night in his acceptance speech.
