‘Friends’ Cast Reunited For HBO Max Special: ‘It’s Happening.’

We thought it’s over forever. It’s NOT.

This is the team that we’ve dreamed for so long to reassemble. Stars from ‘Friends’ are reuniting for an HBO Max Special and while it’s still unscripted, it’s definitely happening.

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer are set to return to Stage 24, the original soundstage and each of them will receive $2.5 million for participating.

Rumors of a special have been circulating since last year after HBO Max announced they will be acquiring the rights of ‘Friends’ after it leaves Netflix. All 10 seasons, 236 episodes of ‘Friends’ can be streamed in May along with the new special.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment reveals when speaking to Variety that sales of both physical and digital copies of ‘Friends’ tripled when news broke that it’s leaving Netflix. Kevin Reilly also commented, “I became aware of ‘Friends’ when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation.”

“It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real-time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans,” he continued.

The new special will be directed by Ben Winston who’s also the executive producer. Other executive producers are Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane along with Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, Perry, Schwimmer, Emma Conway and James Longman.
