First Look At Ryan Gosling As The Famous Ken Doll In Live-Action Barbie Movie
It’s set for release on July 21st, 2023.
In acclaimed movies like Blade Runner 2049, Half Nelson, Blue Valentine, and Drive, Ryan Gosling is known for his serious acting work. So, him sporting a cheesy grin and white underwear branded with his new character’s name “KEN” seems to be somewhat of a left turn for the actor.
The Oscar-nominated recently left his fans stunned with his new look as the beloved Mattel Ken doll.
The 41-Year-Old showed off an orange-hued tan and shiny chiseled chest in a revealing double denim ensemble. He also debuted his bleached white hair for the fictional role. It appears Ryan is dressed as the Earring Magic Ken version of the doll introduced by Mattel in 1993 as a companion to its Earring Magic Barbie figure.
So far, Twitter has agreed as film fans took to the platform to react to Ryan showing off his buff body.
One person wrote: “Damn Ryan, you nailed it.” Another said: “OMG! The perfect Ken casting!” Others remarked on the camp aesthetic of the image, while a third stated: “Brb going back in the closet quick so I can come out again for this.” A fourth, who appears to be a die-hard Barbie fan, wrote: “I was hoping for golden blonder hair, but I guess this is satire.” Some pointed out that Ken is supposed to be younger, as one expressed: “Hollywood has not invested in any young male stars in the last fifteen years, and this is a perfect example. Why is ken in his forties.”
Ryan’s version of the Ken doll features an updated look with the character sporting blonde instead of the traditional hair [pictured].
The old version doll also featured a lavender mesh shirt, a purple leather jacket, and jewelry, including a necklace and an earring. When the doll was first released, it became the highest-selling Ken doll in history and even sparked a stir as some people speculated the designers had taken inspiration from the gay clubbing scene in early 90s New York and LA. However, this look of Ryan was first released by Warner Bros. via a tweet simply with the film title and a release date of July 21st, 2023.
The look was shared about the same period when they first shared the image of Margot, 31, as Barbie.
On the other hand, Greta Gerwig, Little Women and Ladybird Filmmaker, will be directing the project and wrote the script with her longtime partner Noah Baum Bach. Accordingly, the film will feature an all-star, including Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, Alexandra Shipp, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, and Will Ferrell. Margot has long been slated for her role, and in December 2020, she vowed to give audiences something different.
