Denzel Washington And Bradley Cooper Console Will Smith After He Smacked Chris Rock At The Oscars
Words of encouragement were given after the emotional moment
Will Smith looked emotional walking down the stage after smacking comedian and presenter Chris Rock across the face. The man had made what appeared to be a tasteless joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hairstyle and made a “G.I. Jane” movie reference.
But instead of shaving it as part of the military force like what Demi Moore did, Jada was suffering from alopecia and decided to cut it short as bald patches began to form on her head.
During the commercial break, Washington and Tyler Perry had closed in on the man to talk with him.
Shocked viewers watched as Will Smith continued yelling at the host to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth. The heated exchanged preface the announcement Rock had to make after that. Fifteen minutes later, Will Smith walked up to give his acceptance speech after winning Best Actor.
“I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment,” he spoke as tears rolled down her face while accepting the award for portraying the father of Serena and Venus Williams in ‘King Richard’. “Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family.”
“In this time in my life, in this moment, I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do.”
“Be careful at your highest moment… that’s when the devil comes for you,” he quoted Washington’s words for him on stage.
Actor Bradley Cooper was also seen approaching and consoling the man before hugging him.
The slap was broadcasted live on the show after Jada rolled her eyes.
