Tom Hanks And Rita Wilson Shares More Uplifting Posts; Below-The-Line Hollywood Workers Continue To Suffer

Good and bad news both from the Hollywood world.

Tom Hanks has been keeping us all updated on his situation as self-quarantined with Rita Wilson in Australia. And so far, he has been posting otherwise daily, normal posts which are uplifting to see. His latest post was on his seemingly distasteful pick of the favorite typewriter to bring while traveling.

And before this, he had a thick layer of Vegemite on his toast, which he regrets in this same post.

The caption reads, “Good News: One week after testing Positive, in self-isolation, the symptoms are much the same. No fever but the blahs.” He added, “I have learned not to spread my Vegemite so thick. I travelled here with a typewriter, one I used to love.”

It’s not Hanks without a bit of encouragement, “We are all in this together. Flatten the curve.”

But on the other hand, things have not been going well for most below-the-line Hollywood workers.

Many of those who work behind-the-scenes on our favorite movies are now stranded with no jobs. They also depend on gigs, which means no companies will cover their back during an unprecedented crisis such as a pandemic.

First assistant director, Isabella Olaguera, shared on Facebook, “This is the first March in 4 years I haven’t had full-time work lined up. The shoots I have are postponed or in limbo. Are any other freelancers a little nervous?” As expected, she was flooded with a number of people who feels bleak about their current situation.

Production jobs are not one you can do remotely – you have to actually be there to do the shooting, set up space, etc. With the production process being put on pause to time indefinite, people are worried over how the whole year will look. March is, after all, peak business time where planning and pre-production for Summer projects happen.
