Woman Explains Less Noticed Type Of Depression And People Are Thanking Her
Does taking care of yourself sounds like a huge task? You’re not alone.
Depression is always a sensitive topic people don’t like to talk about. No matter how people are telling each other to start noticing this, it’s still a really hard topic to speak about. It’s especially damaging to the mind and physical health because mental illness can quickly worsen without people around you noticing it.
Introducing our Twitter heroine, Molly Backes.
M. Molly Backes decided to take to social media to help others learn about a different type of depression. She calls it the ‘Impossible Task’ but experts often refer this with the term ‘Executive Dysfunction’. When people often think of depression as something sad, it actually can be very varied.
Impossible Task depression: a thread.
Executive dysfunction is an acknowledged mental illness by psychiatrists. This often comes together with other disorders, such as people with ADHD, PTSD, as well as stress or trauma. It can seem like these people are being lazy and making up excuses but they aren’t.
They just simply feel like those seemingly mundane and minor tasks to be so burdening and overwhelming. Molly advises these people to reach out for help and accept them without feeling embarrassed – that’s what having a loved one means, right? To help each other in need at all times.
People were relating and thanking Molly so much as they now felt seen and understood.
Not every problem can have the same ’emergency’ look. Washing the dishes don’t sound like something huge that anyone should be fussing about. But what if your friends haven’t managed to pull that one off since Christmas? Will you be willing to make the trip and help without judging?
That is probably the issue with the world today – mental illness is never something easy to talk about. It takes one’s trust and courage to do so and it’s already commendable. The first few easy steps to get a friend to open up can be a warm, home-cooked meal with a few kind words.
