Woman Left Hungry At Michelin-Starred Restaurant As She Was Served The Worst Things Ever
“These are made with rancid ricotta.”
You never go back after a bad meal, doesn’t matter if they were served on gold or cooked by a world-star chef. Most people expect a Michelin restaurant to at least has the standard for tasting heavenly. If heavenly is pushing it too far, then at least they have to be filling and edible.
Writer Geraldine DeRuiter shares her experience enjoying a 27-course meal at a Michelin starred restaurant and it was awful, to say the least.
There was a lot of bite-sized food. Bite-size is an exaggeration; they were smaller than that.
She wrote about this meal, “I’ve added the bread plate for scale. This was the largest course of the 27 (We got six noodles and one piece of bread each.)”

Why do restaurants do this? Now, to begin that argument, it’s not like we hate food with unique displays or serving methods. There’s a reason why Salt Bae was so popular due to their dramatic method of serving steaks. Now with a number of branches, their $500 steaks at least fill you up with meat and gold.
“A course for *two* people at Bros,” she showed another meal.
But when you sacrifice the eating experience just to chase after aestheticism, you may have lost the true meaning of being a chef. Gordon Ramsay hammered it into his chefs to stop the BS and start making good food that makes people come back.
She doesn’t hold back with her opinion and hence, poured down her thoughts of the “food” she had at the Michelin restaurant. Her intensely awful, meticulous details on the horrifying 4.5 hours of experience went so viral, the chef actually wrote a piece in reply.
She admitted she knew they got the tasting menu. But she felt famished after being handed only one tablespoon of food after another.
Pictured above is the main course and Geraldine wrote, “We got a tablespoon of crab.”
She tried to reason that perhaps, the restaurant wasn’t at their best that day, “I’ve tried to come up with hypotheses for what happened. Maybe the staff just ran out of food that night.”
“Maybe they confused our table with that of their ex-lover’s. Maybe they were drunk. But we got twelve kinds of foam, something that I can only describe as “an oyster loaf that tasted like Newark airport”, and a teaspoon of savory ice cream that was olive flavored.”
“A sliver of oyster loaf with foam. David’s face here says more than I ever can.”
“Teaspoon of olive ice cream.”
Because of the lack of a menu, they were made to order the tasting menu. There’s also a lack of explanation in how they’re supposed to enjoy their meals.
Just like how Rand was confused here as to which part of the current meal is edible.
But when they attempted to ask, things just get even more confusing.
But the highlight of the night has got to be the citrus foam served on a plaster cast from the chef’s own mouth.
“Absent utensils, we were told to lick it out of the chef’s mouth in a scene that I’m pretty sure was stolen from an eastern European horror film,” she explained how the meal was supposed to be enjoyed.
At one point in the course, Geraldine was really hungry and wanted to eat this fruit. But no, they were “not supposed to be” eaten.
She attempted to sum up how it was most possibly the worst dinner she’s ever had.
Everyone was famished and they couldn’t wait for the main course, so Geraldine asked the server.

It keeps getting better and better. At this point, you don’t know if it’s Geraldine’s writing or the chef’s pure insanity that kept this piece so engaging to read.

There was a confusing moment when the restaurant insisted they should take a picture with them.
They even managed to find the chefs identity and hilarity ensues.

The Everywhereist blog owner, Geraldine, is a world-acclaimed author and public speaker who loves traveling with her husband. While there are special cases when people use food as a medium for art without intentions of letting people eat them, these “Avant Grande” food will end up in someone’s stomach.
One shouldn’t have to sacrifice their tastebuds to enjoy their food, nor be left starving and skipping on meals because they have allergies. Fine dining is about the experience, isn’t it?
“You don’t get it,” is probably what he was trying to say. But most people pointed out that Geraldine just wanted something to eat and not starve after spending 200 Euros.
Well, at least she got this out of the chaotic dinner night.
