Woman, 30, Who Is Expecting Baby With Her Husband, 60, Hits Back At Trolls
“If I could say one thing to our haters online it would just be to be kind.”
In December, Larry and Mindy Mikla shared with their audience they are expecting their first child. But after sharing the happy news, the pair has since been flooded with backlash from trolls who tells them things like “It’s sad the baby won’t get to see his dad live long,” and “That kid isn’t going to have a dad in five to 10 years.”
Addressing the cruel comments, the couple has now opened up about the insults they’ve gotten online, including how people told them their romance is gross.
“I think social media is becoming a less accepting place. Since announcing that we’re pregnant, it brought in a new wave of hate, with people saying how selfish the decision is. The funny thing about the hate comments and the mean comments is, we have never had somebody walk up to us and say this in person to our face,” Mindy, the expecting mom, said.
She added: “It’s just keyboard warriors. They wouldn’t say it to our face, but they have no problem typing it.” While Mindy admitted some positives of social media, she branded it from her experience as a brutal and judgmental place.
She continued: “You can find common ground with other people and not feel so alone, and that’s the great aspect of social media. But the negative is that it is brutal – it can be a very brutal and judgmental place, which is hard to deal with. If I could say one thing to our haters online, it would just be to be kind.” With all the negatives they’ve received, the coupe remains focused on the nice responses.
Larry reportedly alleged that the outpouring of support is amazing from his point of view and that it’s been a humbling experience to have people leave lovely comments and wish them well.
“The people that comment and say, “I really enjoyed your videos,” or, “I’m having a rough time, and you guys helped me through it,” or, “I had exams, and I was stressed, and you helped ease my stress,” that’s why we do what we do.” Mindy added: “We don’t film videos or post photos for comments. We do it because it’s something we love to do, and we love to share our lives with others and hope it’s relatable to someone else.”
The Florida-based couple started dating in 2015. They crossed paths after Mindy got into a car accident, and Larry, a police officer at the time, helped her.
Soon, they fell in love and got married a year later. Mindy, who posted videos for a year before introducing Larry, also admitted to noticing a slew of negatives, which she was prepared for. She explained: “I was filming videos [of myself], and people were asking who I was talking to behind the camera. I was on YouTube for a full year before I introduced Larry, but when everyone started asking, that’s when I shared him.”
