Woman, 24, Warns Of A Possible Yet Not Widely Known Menstrual Experience, Goes Viral
The menstrual experience turned traumatic, leaving Swegle utterly terrified and in disbelief.
The experience left Madi Swegle so terrified that she couldn’t hold back from educating others. The 24-year-old recently had her menstrual cycle start as usual, but soon she suffered unusual symptoms that became unbearable. Swegle said she thought it was just a normal awful period as our society has normalized severe period pains, but as the pain turned traumatic, it left her utterly in disbelief.
She began her video by stating: “So, something extremely scary and honestly a little traumatic happened to me last night.”
Madi continued: “If you’re a woman, this is important. I’ve never heard of this before in my life. I’m a nurse. Never heard of it. I wish I had, which is why I’m posting this video. Basically, yesterday, my cycle started. It started out as a normal cycle, normal cramping, normal flow. Everything was normal. Around 7 p.m. last night, my cramps suddenly got very, very intense.”
@sweglestory Google “decidual cast” at your own discretion 😵💫 Honestly debated if I should share this or not but I wish I had known about this before it happened to me. It was so painful and scary 😩 #psa #decidualcast #periodcramps #period #ladies #menstralcycle #fyi #medicaltiktok #womenshealth #ob #obstetrics #obgyn #nursesoftiktok ♬ original sound – Madi Swegle
The labor and delivery nurse shared that the instinct to go sit on the toilet with a heating pad instantly kicked in.
“I don’t know if it was my instinct or what but I was like, ‘Jake, I need to go sit on the toilet with a heating pad. Something’s not right. This pain is the worst pain I’ve honestly felt in my entire life. So, I’m gonna try that for about an hour. I had a heating pad. I had a bucket in front of me because I felt nauseous from the pain. I had goosebumps all over. And it wasn’t like normal cramps where thy kind of like ebb and flow.”
Madi revealed she would call the experience consistent severe pain and consistent severe cramps.
She further said: “The amount of pain I was in, Jake was like, ‘Do we need to take you to the ER?’ This is not normal. And I was like, “No.” I thought it was just an awful period. And honestly, I thought I was just being a big baby about the pain. I was on the toilet for about an hour. And an hour later, after this consistent, like never-ending, extremely painful cramp, something came out of me.”
At first, Madi [pictured with her husband Jake] thought what came out of her was a massive blood clot, but it wasn’t. It was a tissue about the size of her palm, and it was in the perfect shape of her uterus.
She stated: “The best way I can think to describe it is if you’ve ever seen or felt a placenta, it felt like that kind of tissue. It had some thickness to it. It was terrifying to see it come out of my body. After it passed through, my cramps completely went away, and I felt 100 times better. I immediately texted my OB a picture of it because what the heck is this thing?”
Madi alleged she turned to Google, and it turns out the tissue is something called a decidual cast.
She explained: “So instead of shedding your uterine lining over a series of days during your period, it’s when your entire uterine lining comes out in one piece through your cervix. Apparently, it’s extremely rare but it happened to me. The cramps I was feeling were like contractions and my cervix dilated a little bit to pass this. I mean, it’s the size of my uterus, a piece of tissue out of me.”
Madi concluded her video, urging people to Google it if they’re curious but they should be aware it’s pretty gross and nasty. She insisted that it’s important for all women to be aware of it.
Many people applauded Madi for sharing her story while admitting to being shocked about the condition.
But some claimed it’s not that rare and that they’ve experienced it.
However, Madi later shared this video, highlighting more information about what happened to her in response to questions.
