“I have such, like a place in my heart for those days.”

Winona Ryder has confessed she struggled to take care of herself after her split from Johnny Depp in 1993. The 50-Year-Old made this admission as she graced the gorgeous cover shoot for Harper’s Bazaar’s July 2022 digital issue, which sees her pose as a smart figure in a black blazer suit.

The actress also detailed how Michelle Pfeiffer supported her at the time while assuring her the rough patch was going to pass, but she couldn’t hear it herself.

“That was my Girl, Interrupted real life. I remember, I was playing this character who ends up getting tortured in a Chilean prison [in the 1994 drama The House of the Spirits]. I would look at these fake bruises and cuts on my face [from the shoot] and I would struggle to see myself as this little girl,” Winona said of the split.

She added: “Would you be treating this girl like you’re treating yourself? I remember looking at myself and saying, “This is what I’m doing to myself inside. Because I just wasn’t taking care of myself.”

The Stranger Things star admitted she had never talked about this until now and that this part of her is very private. She stated: “I have such, like a place in my heart for those days. But for someone younger who grew up with social media, it’s hard to describe.” Winona further confessed she felt like part of her life was over as she reflected on the cruel tabloid culture in the early 2000s.

Of her struggle after the split from Depp, the actress likened her state to her character Susana Kaysen in 1999’s Girl Interrupted, who spent 18 months at a psychiatric hospital after a suicide attempt.

In 2001, Winona had made the headlines for being caught shoplifting from Saks Fifth Avenue’s Beverly Hills department store and being found guilty. On being targeted by the press amid the scandal, she told the magazine: “I definitely retreated. I was in San Francisco. But I also wasn’t getting offers. I think it was a very mutual break. It’s so interesting when you look at the early aughts. It was kind of cruel time.”

She added: “There was a lot of meanness out there. And then I remember coming back to L.A. and it was a rough time. And I didn’t know if that part of my life was over.”

However, Winona was convicted of stealing nearly £4K worth of designer merchandise from the exclusive department store. On the other hand, the star is now in a happy relationship with her long-term partner Scott Mackinlay Hahn. As they remain on a very good footing, they don’t have plans to get married and have children,” an insider had alleged.
