‘We Were Gay Until We Met Each Other, Here’s Our Unusual Heterosexual Love Story’
Currently, they live in separate states but plan to cohabitate in California.
They previously only dated people of the same s*x but are now involved in an unusual heterosexual relationship. James Carrington considers himself a feminine man while Maren Butler identifies as a masculine woman. The pair does not follow any stereotypical gender roles but instead chooses to mix roles as they see fit.
“It’s an unusual pairing, but we’re so happy,” Maren alleged.
She told South West News Service: “Before James, I’d only dated girls, but I’ve always been attracted to fem-men because I love the combination of confidence and femininity. The 21-Year-Old, a pre-med student of Philosophy and Public Health at Tulane University, New Orleans, added that she found James’ audacious androgyny appealing and said ‘he has a pretty face and pretty smile. What’s not to love?”
Like Maren, 23-Year-Old James had also only dated members of his same s*x before they met.
The event planner from Durham, North Carolina explained: “Even though, I identified as g*y before I met Maren, I wasn’t seeking a romantic relationship with men. A long time before I met Maren, I had one boyfriend, but we only lasted a couple of months as it didn’t feel right. When I got to know Maren, there was the click and that’s how I knew this was special.”
For Maren, the spark of love emerged when she stumbled upon James’ TikTok in February 2021.
The video at the time showed the ultra-feminine BF in stiletto heels, colorful acrylic nails, and eyelash extensions. Maren, from Central Valley, California said: “I remember seeing James’ video and thinking he was so cool.” Eventually, the pair connected online exchanged phone numbers, and allegedly spent hours chatting on FaceTime.
March 2021 saw Maren make a 10-hour trip to visit James in his home state. And he indeed introduced her to his friends and family.
She told The Post: “We talked about meeting up, and I had a couple of days off school, so I decided it was the perfect time to meet,” noting the journey was well worth it. “When I arrived, it was fairly late at night, but it was amazing to see each other in person for the first time. James was just how he was over the phone, funny, intelligent and confident.”
Maren and James became an item in April 2021. Currently, they live in separate states but visit one another when their schedules permit, though they plan to cohabitate in California.
James shared: “We cannot wait to enjoy the everyday couple things like waking up next to each other, enjoying new experiences and not having to cram it into one weekend. Most of all, we’re excited to do life together and get married and have babies. It’s important to live your life in a way that you’re happy with and that is true to you.”
The revolutionary relationship has since garnered an influx of praise from people online but then some people aren’t accepting of their love.
James’ dad had been taken aback when he introduced Maren as his GF – he’s of a different generation and a pairing like that of Maren and James isn’t something he’s seen. Maren alleged: “When in public, we mainly get stares from small children and older people, claiming her mother was equally shocked by James’ womanly appearance.
While he insists his father has now accepted Maren, James claimed he understands why many folks struggle to embrace their romantic partnership.
He said: “Society is so used to putting people into a box. So, when you meet people as unique as us, for some it’s hard to comprehend because of how we present ourselves in our appearance and mannerisms.” Maren insisted they don’t take anything personally and that while it’s annoying to explain their relationship, some people just don’t know how to react due to confusion and curiosity.
Their story on TikTok has gone viral, fetching upwards of over 30 million views and they couldn’t be happier together.
