This is the first time the queen carried out key duty at her retreat in Aberdeenshire.

The Queen has welcomed the newly elected leader of the Conservative Party to become prime minister at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. It marks the first time her Majesty is pictured since arriving at the estate on July 21st. It was also the first time the 96-Year-Old monarch carried out essential duty at her retreat in Aberdeenshire rather than in Buckingham Palace.

Queen Elizabeth, faced with mobility issues, welcomed Liz Truss while leaning on a walking stick.

Some observers noticed her Majesty’s right hand appeared bruised or purple in photographs. The meeting with Truss took place in Balmoral’s green-carpeted Drawing Room, which has matching green sofas, a leaf-patterned fabric chair, an open fire, and several equine-themed paintings on the walls. Notably, since last autumn, the Queen has been suffering from an episodic mobility problem.

Due to her health, a decision was made last week to ask the outgoing and incoming premiers to make the 1000-mile round trip to see her.

The Queen received in Audience the Right Honorable Elizabeth Truss MP today and requested her to form a new Administration. Ms. Truss accepted Her Majesty’s offer and kissed hands upon her appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury,” a statement from Buckingham Palace read. The Court circular typically records the PM kissed hands-on appointment, but it wasn’t the case as it was just a handshake.

47-Year-Old Truss has become the third female prime minister in British history, following in the footsteps of Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.

However, the Queen – who spends the months of August and September at her Highlands retreat, has since been joined by family members at various stages. Prince William and Kate, including their children, have already seen her at Balmoral this year. It’s unknown if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will visit her while in the UK this week as they attended the One Young World Summit in Manchester.
