Stop Kissing Your Dog On The Mouth, and This Doctor Explains Why
Don’t kiss them and avoid these health risks.
A medical assistant who often shares health trivia and helpful tips shocked several users on why they should never kiss a dog, even their own.
“It’s time to stop,” the man spoke in his clip. “You could actually lose your limbs over it.”
Some people think it’s weird to kiss them on the lips; others think that’s normal because their dogs won’t pick which part of your face they want to lick anyways. But these simple gestures of affection can lead to serious health issues, and CDC supports it.
The medical assistant explained, “This is a serious illness that can cause widespread systemic infection, septic shock, and even gangrene.”
“And depending on how fast it progresses and when it’s diagnosed, amputation may become the only treatment.”
“Why not avoid all that trouble and just stop kissing your dog? Seems like an easy fix to me.”
This TikToker is referring to Capnocytophaga germs, which according to CDC (Center for Disease Control), “can spread to people through bites, scratches, or close contact from a dog or cat and may cause illness, including sepsis.”
They added, “Most people who have contact with a dog or cat do not become sick. People with a weakened immune systems who have difficulty fighting off infections (for example, people with cancer or those taking certain medications such as steroids) are at greater risk of becoming ill.”
The chances are low, but never zero. There are many different ways to show affection to your dog without ingesting dog drool, so why just not do it?
