People Call Will Smith ‘Hypocrite’ After A Resurfaced Video Shows Him Mocking Bald Man

A joke from 20 years ago on the exact same subject.

After a night filled with unexpected moments and jokes, the public is scrutinizing Will Smith’s every move. The latest being a video of him making a joke of a bald man resurfacing, bringing more criticisms against his action during Oscars night.

The ‘Fresh Prince’ star appeared in The Arsenio Hall Show back in 1991 and was cracking jokes with John Williams the bassist.

One of his jokes was about how the man was bald and Will said, “Like, he has a rule, the bass player? He’s got a rule: He’s gotta wax his head every day. That’s a rule.”

“Ah these are jokes, come on,” he followed up after the audience laughed.

Praising the ‘never forget’ phrase, users quickly accused the man a hypocrite.

Diving deep into the story, Rolling Stone shared John B. Williams’s statement, “I didn’t take it seriously. He was a comedian. He was the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He was a rapper. I took it as a joke. I laughed it off.”

The 81-year-old shared that his bald head story was because of the measle treatment he got as a child that caused hair thinning. He shaved his head and never really gave it much thought. He never had alopecia and he understood that it was because Will realized his wife was the target of the joke.

“Chris Rock is a comedian. I like Chris Rock. When Chris first made the comment, Will was laughing,” shared the bassist. “It wasn’t until it became obvious Jada didn’t think it was funny that Will went to her defense. Love makes you do all kinds of things. That’s his wife, who he loves. He just reacted from outrage. I have sometimes reacted from outrage.”

There were many who defended Chris’s actions as he would’ve grown much since the 1991 clip.

Will has since apologized for his action and shared the statement on his social media, “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive.”

“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
