NYC Photographer Slammed For Charging More For Curvy Models
“I guess he just doesn’t want to have to look at them through his camera?”
Model Megan Mesveskas has been going hot on TikTok after blasting out an NYC photographer charging plus-size models an extra $100. The 24-year-old who owns a modeling agency reached out to the man inquiring about his rates.
She finally received a reply and her “jaw dropped” because curvy models are charged more.
The “standard” rate is $950 while the “plus/curve” category will have to pay an extra $100 for a total of $1050.
The manager, who’s also a model herself, ended her video, “I guess he just doesn’t want to have to look at them through his camera?”
The photographer, however, has been defending his stance, arguing that Mesveskas should’ve asked the reason why.
The photographer spoke to The Post, “It’s easy to jump on something you don’t understand.”
He explains that the “test shoots” he works on for the models are to create a look-book for them to bring to auditions. And for these look-books, Lords would provide the designer clothes models can choose from for the photoshoots. However, for curvy models, it’s not easy to fill his wardrobe.
The photographer explains that clothes above size 4 are particularly hard to find and when he does find them, they are always pricier than if the clothes were in size 0. He explains, “Getting those clothes is very difficult. I need to charge a bit higher because it’s hard to find anything.”
“I go out there and buy the clothes with my own credit card for the models to wear as part of our package.”
Sixtine Rouyre, who’s under the management of Mesveskas’ agency, has reshared the video and it’s earned over 100k views on the platform.
The model spoke up, “This is just one more example of how awful the modeling industry is to literally anyone over a size 0.”
“Your fatphobia is showing, it’s f – – king disgusting, and you should be ashamed of yourself.”
The photographer has been constantly hit with criticisms after the video gained traction. He’s disabled the comment section of his Instagram page and is now seeking to take legal action against the two.
The photographer argued, “I’m a black man in America, and two white women tell me I’m discriminating them? I’m so hurt by this. Nobody is telling the true story.”
@meganmesveskas This is insane! A well known New York photographer shamelessly charges curve and plus size models an extra $100 for his dissatisfaction of having to look at them on set. #williamLords #curvemodel #Plussizefashion #plussize #plussizemodel ♬ original sound – Megan Mesveskas
