Her response was, “I know and I don’t like it.”

What counts the most when it comes to gifts is the thoughts. Putting aside the price tag issue (because who gets their wife a $20 cutlery set while buying their sister-in-law a $250 bracelet?), every parent loves gushing over the things their little ones got them, no matter how ridiculous it was.

Coach Tijana Daly has been enjoying Christmas and the year-end holidays with her family.

Yet, it wasn’t always pleasant, especially when she was still living with her biological mother who wouldn’t spare her the negative, destroying comments upon receiving a Christmas gift that wasn’t to her liking. While it wasn’t clear if she was indeed diagnosed with NPD (Narcissistic personality disorder), Tijana dubs her as a ‘narcissist and toxic mother.’

She shared her story with her 79.9k TikTok followers and it’s been watched 1.9 million times.

“As the child of a narcissist and toxic mother, here are some Christmas gifts she’s given back over the years.”

“First, we have ice skates and this one was probably the most hurtful because I was 10,” she said before detailing what happened.

“Basically, I loved skating with my dad and my mom never came and I wondered why. So I had the idea to buy her skates, thinking it’d make her want to join our fun. I asked her excitedly, ‘Do you know what I’m getting you for Christmas?'”

“And her response, word for word: I know and I don’t like it.”

“Needless to say, she opened it and literally passed the box right back to me.”

“Next when I was 17, I got her a set of lotions and sprays, cliche gift.”

“No one really wants to get it, but keep in mind, I’m 17. I don’t have a whole lot of money and this lady would literally take anything and use it as long as it was given to her for free. She’s not picky with the quality of stuff she uses.”

“But this one she left under the tree for two weeks. I’m not kidding. And I was like, ‘Why are you not using my gift?’ This was the height of our conflict and she was like, ‘I think you got me this to be mean to me. I think you got this for me as a joke.'”

“So I threatened to give it to my boyfriend’s mom, and she got all mad at that and I was like, ‘Are you okay?'”

“One time I gave her a wallet. It was a Guess wallet. She liked Guess at the time. I was probably 20 at the time, and again, she gave it back immediately because it was ‘too big.’ It was a freaking normal wallet!”

“There was a point in time when I started giving gift cards. And I usually gave one for a department store like Hudson’s Bay here in Canada.”

“But no, get this. She came at me with, ‘Well, I don’t have a car. I never shopped there. That’s not convenient for me to get to.'”

“I defaulted to experiences. Who wouldn’t want an experience? Guess who?”

“I got her a getaway for the weekend with my dad at Niagara Falls. She had a little bit more of a nice answer on this one. She doesn’t like spending time with my dad so she gave it to me and my husband at the time.”

“Our oldest son was like eight months old. So we were like, ‘Okay if you babysit.’ So I wasn’t really mad at that point.”

“Needless to say, I stopped giving gifts to that b**ch. This year, she’s going to get a real special gift. Maybe I’ll give her this TikTok.”

The personal trainer fully understands that her upbringing may not make her a “perfect mom,” but she learns a lot from it.

She shared, “I am fiercely committed to healing the trauma I had so my boys don’t experience the same.”

“Being a parent is a huge responsibility. It requires you to rise up and work on parts of yourself you didn’t know needed working on. I’m grateful I get the chance to take this role on.”

It was saddening to see that many people are sharing similar experiences.
