Meghan Markle Denies That She Lied About ‘Growing Up As An Only Child’
They’ve caused her “substantial and irreparable prejudice, injury, and harm.”
Meghan Markle has been accused by her half-sister Samantha of lying when she claimed to have been raised as an only child in her interview with Oprah Winfrey last year.
Samantha called her statement a “premeditated campaign” meant to destroy the family’s reputation.
The Duchess defended herself against Samantha who also sued her for selling the “rags to riches” story during the bombshell interview that took the Royal Family by surprise. She’s also included her comments in Meghan’s close friend’s book, “Finding Freedom” by Omid Scobie.
Meghan’s legal teams defended, “It is hard to imagine a more personal and subjective feeling than how one views their own childhood. Moreover, Plaintiff’s opposition completely ignores the context of the statement, where Ms. Winfrey asked Meghan about her “relationship” with Plaintiff (to whom Ms. Winfrey referred as her “half-sister on her father’s side”).”
“Meghan’s response to that question that she ‘grew up as an only child’ was obviously not meant to be a statement of objective fact that she had no genetic siblings or half-siblings.”
Samantha slammed Meghan’s comments in the book as they’ve caused her “substantial and irreparable prejudice, injury, and harm,” which also included one that said she dropped out of high school.
But when it comes to her comments in Scobie’s books, her attorneys said she simply could not be held liable for a book not penned by her. They added, “Rather, it was a textbook example of a subjective statement about how a person feels about her childhood.”
“In sum, Meghan’s motion to dismiss should be granted, as should her request for attorneys’ fees, costs, and other relief.”
The sisters’ feud blew up in public when she first tweeted, “The Queen would be appalled” when Meghan’s engagement to Prince Harry was announced in 2017. She’s since made attacking statements against the Duchess during interviews but would also compliment her at times.
In her book about Meghan, “The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister: A Memoir, Part One,” she spoke about their rivalry, especially when their father was still married to Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.
