Kim Kardashian Says People Didn’t Know Who Marilyn Monroe Was Before She Wore Her Dress At Met Gala
Kim Kardashian shared that she was surprised to know that a lot of people only learned about Marilyn Monroe when she wore the dress. Her iconic Met Gala look earlier this year actually served as a history lesson for those who didn’t know that she sang “Happy Birthday” for President John F. Kennedy in 1962.
She spoke excitedly about the dress on Today Show and clarified some rumors, including how she damaged the dress that was kept by Ripley’s.
The reality star shared about the dress on her social media and revealed that she lost 16 pounds in order to fit into the original dress. During her red carpet appearance, the dress couldn’t hide her bums that needed additional help to be tied together. Rumors came that during the three minutes she wore the dress, it was damaged.
But what’s more shocking from the headlines was how some people came to the social media to ask who Marilyn Monroe was! Kim said, “That was the most shocking thing to me and that’s why I was so happy to at least have that opportunity and that Ripley’s gave me the opportunity to share this moment so that it could live on.”
“I respect her and I understand how much this dress means to American history. With the theme being American, I thought what is more American than Marilyn Monroe singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the president of the United States.”
“It was such a process. I showed up on the red carpet in a robe and slippers. I put the dress on the bottom of the carpet, went up the stairs, I probably had it on for four minutes and then I changed right at the top of the stairs.”
When asked if it was damaged, she said, “No. [Ripley’s and I] worked together so well. There were handlers and gloves that put it on me.”
And she doesn’t consider her weight loss as anything negative to be frowned upon. In fact, she’s continued losing weight since! She shared her thoughts, “I looked at it like a role and I really wanted to wear this dress. It was really important to me. It actually taught me a lot about my lifestyle and my health.”
“Since then, afterward, I continued to eat really healthy. I’m down 21 pounds now. I’m not trying to lose any more weight but I have more energy than ever,” she continued. “I cut out so much sugar, a lot of junk food I was eating. I just completely changed my lifestyle.”
