There’s nothing extravagant about what they do as the spark includes reconnecting on a regular basis.

The couple tied the knot in 2019 and their love has since remained unshaken. Katharine McPhee and her record producer husband, David Foster, have together achieved quite a lot together, including being parents to son Rennie, who was born in February 2021. Now, the pair are gearing up to release a festive EP, titled Christmas Songs.

Both Katharine and David have drawn a great deal of attention for their age gap, but they’ve proven their love and understanding are unique.

38-Year-Old Katharine recently told FOX News, that one of the secrets to keeping the spark in her marriage to David alive is a GLASS OF WINE. The actress added they also make time to reconnect with one another on a regular basis, indulging in a tipple as they talk and that their son forms some of the basis of many of their conversations.

Katharine claimed she and David also love going to a movie or having dinner together, insisting ‘there’s nothing extravagant about what they like to do.’

“I’ll have a glass of wine – he doesn’t drink – and we just talk. That’s our time together that we always make sure to have. There’s always something to talk about whether it’s our family, our son – it’s our time. We just want to reconnect.” This comes as David had declared he has no misgivings about welcoming a baby in his 70s. He had welcomed six children throughout his five marriages – Jordan, 36, Erin, 40, Alison, 52, Amy, 49, Sara, 41, and the latest Rennie, one.

The music mogul told PEOPLE  that while becoming a father again at his age wasn’t something he anticipated, he hasn’t regretted a single day of it.

He reflected: “I’ve loved every single day. It’s the standard thing of like ‘Oh, well you were so young when you had your children and you were working day and night, you never saw them.” David further confessed there’s some truth to that, ‘Sadly, for my [older] kids. I was just working a lot. Even though I’m working a lot now, I’ll cancel anything just to hang with him. It’s different.”

In his PEOPLE interview, he also acknowledged that he and Katharine are an unconventional couple but in defense, he invoked Celine Dion’s marriage to Rene Angelil.

David said: “With Celine and Rene Angelil, there was a big age difference and after I was working with them for a long time it just became Celine and Rene. It just looked and felt normal. But it was of course kind of odd in the beginning. But I think we’re over that hump now with five years of being together and hopefully people just start looking like we belong together because we feel like we do.”

Katharine and David met in 2006 when he served as a mentor to a group of contestants including her on American idol. The season brought the pair together and at the time, Kathrine was aged 22 while David was 56. The actress had weighed into David’s interview with PEOPLE on their big age difference, stating: “We don’t care. We just love our history, how we met and where we are now. Sometimes we look at each other like, this is so wild that we’re together.

Of their new Christmas album, Katharine, however, joked she guilted David into producing it.
