Johnny Gives Surprise Performance At UK Concert After Libel Trial Closing Arguments
While many were impressed, a few weren’t.
Johnny Depp spent the weekend on stage at the Sheffield City Hall with Jeff Beck, performing a cover of John Lennon’s isolation. As the actor left his libel trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, he jetted to the United Kingdom, where he shocked concertgoers. The song, released by the pair, recently re-entered the charts, thanks to Depp’s case.
The duo also performed covers of Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On and Jimi Hendrix’s Little Wing.
Depp and 77-Year-Old Beck frequently recorded together during the lockdown, especially in the initial wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. While he’s best known for his film work, the Pirates of the Caribbean, he is also a musician and had played guitar in a band with Alice Cooper, and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry called the Hollywood Vampires.
Of his appearance in the UK, fans have since described it as amazing and an awesome set.
One person exclaimed: “JOHNNY SINGING ISOLATION OMG.” A third stated: “I didn’t realize Friday was the last day for Depp in Virginia. He is performing with Jeff Beck in the UK today. So onward for him.” While a second asked: “Who’d have thought Johnny Depp would be with Jeff Beck in Sheffield?” A third added: “He finally gets to breathe and do what he loves! Good for him.”
Not all were impressed as they called out the actor for his actions. One person wrote: “So Johnny Depp is on tour with Jeff Beck. The one who’s been canceled.”
“Wasn’t expecting this. I thought he was in court, but it turns out he’s in Sheffield with Jeff Beck,” an Instagram user who caught a shot of the actor wrote.
A source close to Depp told CourtTV that Depp is in the United Kingdom as he was a few weeks ago to adhere to his previously scheduled work obligation. On the other hand, the 58-Year-Old seems to have gotten a show of support from rock legend Paul McCartney, who showed a video of him filmed for the Beatle in 2012 at his concert in Orlando on Saturday.
As Paul performed the song My Valentine for his 2012 album Kisses on the Bottom, the video for the song featured Depp and actress Natalie Portman.
It’s unknown if the move was intentional, but then Paul had been playing the song with the same visual treatment on his 2022 tour, his first in three years. However, Depp’s six-week-long court case is now in the hands of the jury to decide if Heard defamed the actor in an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018. Depp’s name wasn’t named in the article, but he insisted the piece ruined his reputation.
