Johnny Depp’s Ex-Fiancée Jennifer Grey Says Johnny Was ‘Crazy Jealous’ During The Time They Were Engaged
The actress recalls “his ill-temper and unhappiness.”
The ‘Dirty Dancing’ star was engaged to Johnny Depp in 1989 in what was a whirlwind romance between the two. The 62-year-old wrote a memoir that recounts her life experiences, gossip, and headlines she lived through in ‘Out of the Corner.’
Recalling their relationship during the ’80s, Grey wrote that the man was “crazy jealous” and often get into fights.
She previously spoke with Entertainment Tonight regarding the trial, “All I can say about that trial is that it breaks my heart for everybody involved. I just think it’s sad and I wish it was resolved. I just wish everybody well.”
Grey wrote in her memoir that Depp, then 26 years old, was “paranoid about what she had been up to while he was gone.”
Depp’s former wife, Amber Heard, testified that Depp was jealous of her working with James Franco.
Grey recalled how they tried to maintain their long-distance relationship, “Johnny was commuting every week back and forth from Vancouver, but had begun more and more regularly to be getting into trouble: fights in bars, skirmishes with cops.”
“He’d started missing his flights home to LA having overslept or when he did come home, he’d be crazy jealous and paranoid about what I’d been up to while he was gone,” she continued.
“I attributed his ill-temper and unhappiness to him feeling miserable and powerless to get off [the TV series] 21 Jump Street.”
Grey’s name has recently been brought up a lot as Depp vs. Heard trial has garnered much attention. With evidence after evidence being submitted by both sides to prove each other as the abuser, Grey had been asked about her relationship with the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star.
Heard claimed to be a survivor of domestic abuse per her Washington Post op-ed. This claim has become the core of the case as Johnny Depp filed for a defamation lawsuit that cost him over $40 million from job loss, including his role as Grindelwald for Disney.
“Was there anything like what we were seeing in the headlines?” GMA asked the actress.
“From my experience with him, I’ve never had anything… anything violent, whatsoever. Nothing,” she answered firmly.
She continued gushing over the man, despite the relationship ending over 30 years ago, “I will say he was a rebound relationship for me. And if you’re looking for a rebound relationship, the 1989 Johnny Depp was [chef’s kiss].”
“It just wiped out all of my pain,” she continued. Then joked, “Oh, Matthew who?”
Heard shared in the trial how Depp got controlling when it comes to her romantic scenes, “He had already been upset with me and accused me in many arguments about not telling him about scenes that I had if I had a kissing scene.”
“I wasn’t explicit about what I was going to do, then I was accused of having withheld information and hiding it from him. So I didn’t want the fight, of course, I didn’t want the argument, but I had to kind of egg-shell tip-toe around how to tell him when I had any sort of scene like that.”
