Jessie James Decker Slammed United Airlines For ‘Humiliating’ Pregnant Sister Sydney
Jessie James Decker voiced her concerns regarding United Airlines’ treatment of her pregnant sister Sydney, stating it brought her to tears.
The country singer expressed her frustration towards United Airlines in a detailed text post on her Instagram stories. It was in response to a complaint made by Anthony Bass, her pregnant sister Sydney Rae Bass’ husband, who is a pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays. He took to social media to express his displeasure with the airline after they allegedly made his pregnant wife clean up popcorn on her hands and knees.
‘My sister @sydneyraebass just texted me from her flight on @united. As you know, she is five months pregnant, at high-risk, and also traveling alone with her two small children. Blaire accidentally spilled some popcorn in the aisle’ of the plain,’ Jessie James Decker wrote in the since-disappeared post.
Sydney has a daughter, 5, named Brooklyn with Anthony, and the couple recently adopted a younger daughter named Blaire in 2020. Allegedly, it was Blaire who mistakenly spilled some of her popcorn on the flight. Jessie added, ‘the flight attendant came up to Sydney with a trash bag, and a wet wipe, telling her the captain wants Syd to clean up every drop.’
The singer then alleged that her sister was forced to clean up the popcorn debris on her “hands and knees,” and the incident was so humiliating that it brought her to tears.’
Way to go united,’ Jessie wrote sarcastically. She further reaffirmed her support in a follow-up post that featured a picture of Jessie cuddling little Blaire by nuzzling her head against hers. ‘Grabbed my sis and the popcorn hazard,’ she joked in the caption. ‘Yes, that’s what the flight attendant told my sister, the popcorn in the aisle is a safety hazard.’
In another post, the singer posted a video where she can be heard questioning her sister Sydney about the source of the popcorn that Blaire had accidentally spilled.
‘I’m thinking this whole time that the popcorn is something Syd just picked up [in the airport],’ Jessie said from behind the camera, while Sydney confirmed it was an in-flight snack provided by the crew. ‘If popcorn is a hazard, why are they giving it on planes?’ The singer asked. The complaint made by Anthony has since sparked a debate online.
Reacting, some people believe it was impolite to expect airline service workers to clean up while others argued that service workers are employed precisely for the purpose.
In an update, Jessie during an Instagram Live Q&A provided an update to her 4.2 million followers, claiming that United Airlines had reached out to her sister, but it was up to Sydney to disclose the details, saying “[Sydney] can share that.” The same day, Sydney posted a photo of her daughter Blaire holding a bag of popcorn and smiling, which seemed to be a reference to the incident.
The mom-of-two didn’t comment on the matter but made a joke in the comments, the ‘popcorn hazard.’
