In 2015, Gary Hardwick met with Almeda at her son Robert’s funeral. He was aged 17 at the time, while Almeda was 71. It was love at first sight, and just two weeks later, they tied the knot in a ceremony arranged for just $200. After the event, the couple moved into Almeda’s house with one of her grandsons, three years older than Gary.
Fast forward to 2021, the pair are now celebrating their 6th anniversary together and have no regrets.
“So many more wonderful years to come,” reads the caption on their TikTok, which showed a picture of the loved-up every year since they met.

And despite the heavy backlash, including Almeda’s heart attack, the pair remains stronger than ever and admit their s*xual life has been going great ever since their first time on their wedding night. “It was wonderful, beyond my wildest dreams. She is my dream woman, and the physical side of our relationship couldn’t be better,” Gary had told Fabulous Digital.
Also, Almeda had shared: “I wasn’t looking for a young man, but Gary just came along. I just knew straight away that he was the one.”
When they first told of their love story in 2020 on Loose Women, Almeda recalled: “I just came out with it and said to him, ‘Look, I’m 71 and you’re 17. Am I too old for you? He squeezed my hand, grinned, and replied, ‘Age is just a number.” The same day [at night], she claimed Gary surprised her with red roses and a bracelet for her birthday, which had been a few days before.
Then they shared their first tender kiss under the moonlight, which Almeda insisted made her feel like a teenager again.
From there on, they started seeing each other every night and eventually got the support and blessings of friends and families, including Gary’s mum Tammy and his grandmother Carolyn, who was aged 71. For Gary, Almeda is relatively young at heart; that age never bothers them, and he believes that God answered his prayers the day she walked into his life.
However, Almeda had been married before for 43 years but admitted Gary was her soulmate in a YouTube video.
