“I’m 22-Year-Old And Always Gets ‘Mistaken’ For My 57-Year-Old Boyfriend’s Daughter”
“I get mistaken for his daughter a lot.”
Brightnye Quayle from Christchurch, New Zealand, is a 22-year-old diving instructor. Her choice of partner has been an eyebrow-raising phenomenon: a 57-year-old divorcee dad of four children.
They’ve been dating for 14 months now after meeting accidentally while on a night out at a casino.
“We actually met totally organically at the casino. I was the girl who bought nine sandwiches because it seemed like the right thing to do at the time,” Brightnye spoke about their first meeting on her TikTok.
“He came up behind me and said that I should come to talk to him, so I did.”

James chimed in, “I thought anyone who is buying nine sandwiches was either starving to death or needed to be spoken to.”
James was divorced after his 30-year marriage ended with four daughters, whom all share similar mixed feelings about his new relationship.
James spoke of her daughters, “Two of them are okay, one is sitting on the fence, and the other one would like to murder you with a pitchfork, which isn’t very nice. But we don’t mind; we’re in love.”
Brightnye has also confirmed that her mother will be spending time with them for a week in August. She hopes they’ll also come to know how she really feels about her relationship.
They started a social media account on their relationship, naming it ‘Unlikely love’ with the handle name ‘agegap50.’
They only made it on August 3 and now have over 23.5k followers on the platform. Many were calling James her “grandfather” and “dad,” questioning if she was really in love with him. Their age gap relationship echoes the same controversies seen in other relationships with an age gap as well.
Brightnye addresses those comments in a video, “I get mistaken for his daughter a lot.”
James continued, “The comments are interesting. A lot of them are about money. It’s ridiculous. I was married to my wife for 30 years, bought her a Maserati, paid for everything… what is the difference?”
“Every relationship, well certainly traditional relationships where the man looks after the woman, of course, you’re going to spend money, it’s not an issue. And not relevant.”
And Brightnye isn’t shy about it as she added, “And we’re off to get me a Porche.”
In her most recent update on TikTok, Brightnye teased her followers that the couple will be taking a 3-month break from TikTok. They said that something “exciting” came up, and it was going to require their undivided attention.
She spoke, “We’ll be back after our three-month break; it’s a secret. We’ll share details with you when we get back.”
