‘I Don’t Answer To You Anymore’: Teacher Tearfully Resigns During A Livestream And Passes On A Strong Message

‘Undervaluing teachers is undervaluing the future!’
Teaching is regarded as one of the noblest professions in the world. Having the energy and the patience to teach kids on a daily basis is truly a strong character.
Well, one dedicated woman from the Indian Woods School who has spent over 20years being a model teacher to gifted students has had enough of the way teachers are treated and made a very bold statement.
Being a teacher for the Shawnee Mission District in Kansas City, the teacher’s career came to an end via a dramatic speech streamed live.
Amanda Coffman tagged teaching as a bad marriage, admitting the profession doesn’t get needs met despite staying in it for the kids.
She went on to reveal how the district administration wasn’t willing to talk about the things that affected the teacher’s work-life, including career trajectory.
‘I knew my action will make a bigger statement on behalf of the teachers as well as draw attention to how important teachers are to students -If I resign in the way I did. There was a message that I was calling the district’s bluff and it’s because they didn’t think any teachers would eventually quite.’ Amanda said.
Passing on a strong message, Amanda continued: ‘We really need to rethink how teachers are treated. No, I didn’t choose the teaching profession for the money. I care enough for my students to stand up and say they and I both deserve the best. Teachers deserve better working conditions and students deserve better learning conditions.’
