Gigi Hadid Deletes Her Twitter Account After Elon Musk Takes Ownership
“Only sorry to the fans.”
Gigi Hadid has joined the ranks of celebrities who left Twitter. The supermodel announced her departure from the platform on Instagram before shortly deactivating her account.
The 27-year-old expressed her dissatisfaction with the “new leadership,” referring to Elon Musk taking over the social media.
She wrote on her Instagram Story, “It’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate & bigotry, and its not a place I want to be a part of.”
“Only sorry to the fans, who I’ve loved connecting with for a decade via Twitter, but I can’t say it’s a safe place for anyone, nor a social platform that will do more good than harm,” she continued.
She reshared Shannon Raj Singh’s tweet, who shared that “the entire Human Rights team has been cut from the company.”
Shannon was unnerved by the firing and added that she was “proud of the work we did to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights, to protect those at-risk in global conflicts & crises.”
According to Bot Sentinel, Hadid was among the million users who’ve left the platform since Musk bought the company.
These numbers represent both those who deactivated or have been suspended by the company. Hadid had over 10.5 million followers before she shut her account down. Along with her are TV screenwriter Shonda Rhimes, actress Mia Farrow, Jameela Jamil, and Téa Leoni.
