Elon Musk Launches $250 Per Bottle Of Tesla Tequila, And It Sold Out Within Hours

Turns out he was serious about that drink.

In 2018, Elon Musk made an April’s Fool joke about trademarking and launching Teslaquila, a new product line from Tesla. Well, Tesla did not go bankrupt, no new alcohol was getting released, and life was okay.

Then, the pandemic hit 2020. This year, it’s not a joke anymore: Tesla tequila can be bought for $250 each bottle on the site. Within hours of launching, the product was sold out. Before this, Musk teased by sending a single emoji as a reply to the old prank tweet.

Tequila was first mentioned when he posted a picture of himself holding a cardboard that reads ‘Bankwupt!’ where he claims he was surrounded with bottles of Teslaquilla. With that, Musk wrote, “Tesla has gone… so bankrupt, you can’t believe it.”

It didn’t stop there as he shared a visual representation of what Teslaquila would look like in a tweet. It took the shape of lightning, the company’s logo, and the alcohol inside made it look deadly cool.

Describing the product, the website writes that this is “premium 100% de agave tequila añejo aged in French oak barrels,” and deliveries are expected to begin late this year.

The bottle is sold for $250 each on the site and is restricted to only two bottles per customer. In October, Elon Musk retweeted from CNBC, which reported that Elon Musk was filing for a trademark on the name ‘Teslaquila.’ He didn’t forget to add a picture of the alcohol complete with the brand.

Musk revealed that during the year 2017 through 2019, the car company was constantly facing a financial crisis, being just one month away from bankruptcy. Musk did not get into the details of how difficult the situation was, although he mentioned ‘productions and logistics hell’ he had to deal with.

From a prank to a sold-out product, we only wonder if Elon Musk will bring back his tequila and what next prank he plans to bring into realization next year.
