Dad Gets Called A Creep After Letting Daughter’s Friend Use Her Sanity Pads During A Sleepover

The most helpful thing one can do to a girl who’s going through their first period is to have sanitary products ready at hand and calm them down if they’re panicking. There isn’t a single child born with a complete understanding of the topic.

A dad who grew up with three other sisters explained that he’s very well informed on the topic and had his 13-year-old already knowledgeable before she had her first period.

Things were pretty smooth with his daughter, and she was glad to have everything ready when the time came. But her friend wasn’t as lucky, and fortunately, she was there to help her.

But somehow, things escalated in ways he didn’t understand. And now the girl’s mom was wary of him.

He turned to Reddit to get opinions and perhaps an explanation of what he did wrong.

“I (43M) and my ex (44F) separated when my daughter was born. Ex sees daughter monthly, but she lives with me as her school is near my house.

I grew up with 3 sisters and very aware of the monthly period. I went out and bought my daughter a ton of products that she can choose from. I sent her a few videos to watch as well to avoid any issues. Daughter (13F) got her period two months ago, and she was very thankful to have products on hand.

One of her friends came over for a sleepover, and during the night, I heard screaming. I woke up and ran into daughter’s room. Her friend started crying, and daughter tried to explain what was going on. She then showed her friend where the products were, and everything calmed down.”

So far, so good! We love how careful and informed this dad was, giving her daughter options and doing his best to accommodate his daughter’s hygiene needs. Thanks to that, he helped not just his daughter but also another girl who obviously didn’t have the same knowledge as her.

Then comes the next morning.

“Her friend’s mom came to pick her up in the morning, and I informed her in small details what happened. Her mother started scolding me for being a creep and should be ashamed of myself. Her friend won’t be coming over anymore because of me.”

And here comes the biggest question mark: Am I wrong for giving daughter’s friend sanitary products?

Users were equally bewildered by the mother’s reaction and made it as if periods should be “segregated from normal life.”

Believe it or not, the stigma around menstruation changes the relationship between daughters and their parents, particularly dads. Karen recalls one of the women who did a questionnaire for her book “About Bloody Time: The Menstrual Revolution We Have to Have.”

One of them recalled “how she used to love sitting on her dad’s lap and how after her periods started, that never happened again.”

So many people expressed the same concern and praised the man for his readiness. The mom was overreacting.
