Coach Slammed For Wearing Tight Leather Pants And High Heels To Game
One thing for sure was that she seriously rocked those looks.
Sydney Carter has been going viral on social media after shots of the assistant coach in pink tight leather pants on the court were shared. The 31-year-old was praised for her fashion choices, but it was mixed with criticisms of people who think she didn’t look “fit for the occasion.”
She told Yahoo! after Twitter reactions overflowed, “I just think that people are uncomfortable with a black woman being in a power position.”
“When you see a black woman who is actually confident and embracing herself, I think that that’s very intimidating,” she shared. The pictures were from her game at Kentucky Wildcats.
Commentators were saying that she wasn’t dressed fit for coaching. One wrote, “Why would u dress in pants that tight to coach?”
Harsher comments believed she should “get ticket/fine whatever” and that it was just straight “inappropriate period.”
But Sydney has also been receiving a lot of praises and support for her looks.
One wrote on Facebook, “I love this. It’s showing her players staff etc they can still be hoppers and maintain their femininity.”
Carter reveals that she’s always been dressing the way she wants and has received comments for years. Before a coach, she’s played for the Aggies for four years since 2008. Then another four years for the Chicago Sky after ranking 10ths of all-time in steals (206) and 18th in points (1,176).
She’s played internationally in Latvia, Israel, and championed in Latvian/Estonian three times and once in the 2016 Eastern European League Championship.
From her decades of experience, Sydney easily concludes that women can’t win public opinion completely unlike the court. She shared, “You hear so many times that people don’t want to watch women play basketball, because there’s too many that look manly, or they play like a guy or don’t play enough like guys.”
“Women can never satisfy anybody in any aspect of life. Just as a woman, it’s hard enough. It’s hard enough that we’re not paid the same or that people think that we can’t do some of the same things or something as well as men in a male-dominated industry.”
“I’m unapologetically myself every day, I could care less if anybody thinks that I’m being extra. I’m not gonna turn up turn my light off because somebody else is offended or intimidated by the fact that I embrace myself.”
She’s always shared what she’s wearing for the day and enjoys it!
The coach assistant talks about how this reflects what youngsters might be feeling, “I think a lot of college kids these days struggle with being confident and embracing who they really are because they are afraid of what the world will say. And I hope that I am a living example of who cares what they say.”
