“I Didn’t Find It Funny”: Ariana DeBose On Critics Choice Awards 2024 Diss

Ariana Debose didn’t take in the Critics Choice Awards 2024 joke about actors also being singers.

Ariana DeBose, the Oscar winner and Broadway star, found herself at the center of attention during the Critics Choice Awards 2024. However, it wasn’t for an accolade but rather for a remark that left her less than pleased. During the Critics Choice Awards, presenters Bella Ramsey and Anthony Ramos playfully threw a jab at actors who also try their hand at singing. Now, DeBose is reacting to the joke that lumped her in with a group of “actors who also think that they are singers.”

“No, I didn’t find it funny. Lol,” Ariana DeBose wrote on Instagram Stories.

DeBose, known for her performances in Broadway hits like “Hamilton” and “Pippin,” clinched an Academy Award and Golden Globe for her role as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story.” Despite her numerous accomplishments, the Critics Choice moment seemed to overshadow her achievements momentarily. So far, the X (formerly Twitter) community has swiftly rallied behind DeBose, expressing their support and disapproval of the jab.

However, DeBose has been involved in various Broadway productions, such as Bring It On, Motown: The Musical, Pippin, and Hamilton. Her depiction of Donna Summer in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical earned DeBose a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. At the recent Critics Choice Awards, she also received a nomination in the Best Song category for her rendition of “This Wish,” featured in the Disney animated film Wish.
